"Chopped" at SPNY Studios

Those who love Food Network know exactly what the competition shows means to the genre. If you are not a Foodie, you at least know of the television hit "Chopped". Starting in January, 2012, Notional Productions teamed with Scripps Productions New York to use the SPNY Studios for five months to shoot 39 episodes of the hit series.

Chopped is a competition show that's all about skill, speed and ingenuity; where four up-and-coming chefs compete before a panel of three expert judges and take everyday items and turn them into an extraordinary three-course meal. Hosted by Emmy Award winner Ted Allen, CHOPPED is a game of passion, expertise and skill - and in the end, only one chef will survive the Chopping Block. Who will make the cut? The answer is on Chopped!

SPNY does "Thanksgiving Live!"

For the first time ever, the Food Network had a rare special get-together of their top chefs with this year's Thanksgiving Live! Special. The first-ever, two-hour interactive live show aired on Sunday, November 20th and SPNY provided full-service production support to the event. Bobby Flay, Rachel Ray, Ted Allen, Melissa D'Arabian, and Alton Brown were all on hand in the Food Network kitchen cooking everybody's favorite starter, main, and side dishes while answering viewers' questions live.

SPNY provided complete production and technical support for the telecast; bringing an unprecedented arsenal of production workflows including, cameras for the multiple locations, several post-production suites for edits to the re-broadcasted version, a rich graphics package, live mixing, and countless production personnel to maximize the impact of this unprecedented HD show.

All SPNY technologies were central to the program, and as a side dish to the on-air broadcast, the network's website served up a three-hour live webcast. Starting a half-hour before airtime, the site streamed a pre-show featuring celebrity chef interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of Alton Brown and the cast preparing for the live television event. During the show, viewers participated in a unique, co-viewing social experience implemented on FoodNetwork.com, Facebook.com, Skype and Livestream. This mix of real-time conversation included video, photos, Facebook and Twitter posts, all seamlessly integrated into the broadcast and web experience, allowed chefs and viewers to share tips, recipes and commentary. After the on-air broadcast concluded, the all-star cast sat down to enjoy the Thanksgiving feast they prepared during the show in the SPNY Studios. This video was streamed online as a special post-show coverage.

It was a successful one-of-a-kind television experience, making Food Network the go-to resource for Thanksgiving food programming and instruction.
